A-Star and Splash - Suzuki's answer to i10?!

Maruti Suzuki is planning two new launches for this year. After the immense success of the Swift, Maruti is planning to bring in the new Splash and the A-Star. Targeted square at the i10, both these cars are trendy lookers. The Splash which might replace the current Wagon R is leagues ahead of it in style. Looking at the pictures, the Splash also seems to be very spacious on the inside. A-Star is a smaller car and may be slotted between the Alto and the Zen Estilo.

Below are some spy pictures of the cars being tested. The first three photos are of the A-Star and the last photo is the Splash.

The picture of the interior is that of the A-Star. The tacho mounted on the dash looks sweet!, is'nt it? The dashboard layout looks neat and trendy. Look at the display below the air con vents, the A-Star could have climate control as well!

There is no clear news about the engines that are going to power these cars. For the Splash and A-Star to qualify for the Indian government's excise duty sop, the petrol engines have to be sub 1.2 litre. But the VDi badge on the black Splash (see pic) indicates that the Splash will have a diesel heart too! It could very well be the 1.3 MJD (Multi Jet Diesel) from the Swift.

Look closer, there is an ABS tag on the black Splash! So, ABS and possibly front airbags could very well find their way into the Splash.

As for the launches, it would be the A-Star first. News from internal sources at Maruti hint an October launch for the A-Star and the Splash would be out a bit later.

These are excellent cars ready to rock the small car segment! Hyundai, get ready for sleepless nights! ;)
